Ja työnimi vaihtuisi nimeksi PLAY. Se, ettei yhtiöllä ole vielä edes operaattorilupaa, ei tunnu menoa haittaavan. Sitkeästi Islannissa halutaan perustaa lentoyhtiöitä, vaikka kilpailutilanne on mikä on.

A new Icelandic low-cost airline has today announced its name as PLAY. The airline is built on the ashes of WOW air.

The staff of PLAY consists of people with a wide range of experience from the aviation industry from airlines such as WOW air and Air Atlanta. The CEO of PLAY is Arnar Már Magnusson.

PLAY flies with Airbus A321 aircraft (targeting both passenger and freight operations for some 200 passengers per flight) and will serve destinations across Europe. As of summer of 2020, the fleet will consist of six aircraft expanding to ten within three years. Plans are to add destinations in North America in spring 2020.

Lakon takia on peruuntunut 1300 Lufthansan lentoa tältä ja huomiselta päivältä. Lufthansa suostuu sovittelumenettelyyn ratkaisun aikaansaamiseksi, mutta sen lisäksi LH Group haluaa kustannussäästöjä. Mm. Austrian Airlinesista vähennetään työntekijöitä.

Cabin crew launched a strike over pay and pensions that will result in the cancellation of 1,300 flights on Thursday and Friday and affect 180,000 passengers. Trade union UFO has called for the walkout on what amounts to one in five of the carrier’s planned 6,000 flights.

Chief Executive Carsten Spohr said he was prepared to enter into arbitration talks with all three unions that represent cabin staff, including UFO. Lufthansa and UFO have been at odds for months over the union’s legal status.

UFO said it would talk to the airline this weekend and would not prolong the strike beyond Friday or extend it to other airlines in the group.

Lufthansa said it would seek additional annual cost savings at Austrian Airlines of 90 million euros ($100 million) by the end of 2021 that would include staff cuts, closing decentralized bases to focus on its Vienna hub and standardizing its fleet.

Spohr said 700-800 jobs would be cut at the Austrian airline.

Lufthansa Cargo ostaa kaksi uutta Boeing 777F rahtikonetta ja poistaa jäljellä olevat 10 MD-11F konetta vuoden 2020 loppuun mennessä.

Lufthansa Cargo will accelerate fleet modernisation by purchasing two new Boeing 777 Freighters, with 10 older MD-11Fs being retired by the end of 2020.

The 777Fs will be delivered in 2020 and based in Frankfurt, with their higher cargo capacity and range offering the same freight performance but with fewer aircraft movements.

Customers will have the same freighter capacity at the end of the rollover as when 18 MD-11Fs were in operation.

Jozsef Varadi has today called in the aviation industry to eliminate business class.

In a somewhat unlikely attack, the chief executive and co-founder of Wizz Air said luxury travel was a burden on the environment.

He explained: “These passengers account for twice the carbon footprint of an economy passenger, and the industry is guilty of preserving an inefficient and archaic model.

“A rethink is long overdue, and we call on fellow airlines to commit to a total ban on business class travel for any flight of under five hours.”

Scandinavia's SAS has disclosed that its first long-range Airbus A321neo will operate the transatlantic service from Copenhagen to Boston when it enters service next September.

The A321LR will be introduced on 18 September 2020, the carrier states.

Nippelitietoa: German Airways on itse asiassa syyskuussa rekisteröity Zeitfracht Groupin omistama brändi, joka kattaa kaksi lentoyhtiötä, WDL:n ja LGW:n, jotka säilyttävät omat operaattorilupansa.

German Airways has entered into a strategic partnership with the Swedish airline Braathens Regional Airlines.

The German regional airline will cooperate with Braathens for several years using a wet-lease agreement (set to begin in March 2020) including the long-term leasing of five Embraer E-190 LR regional jets. They will be stationed at various Swedish airports and will operate domestic and international routes from there.

Braathens had been looking for a reliable European partner with modern and low-emission aircraft for a long time. With the Embraer jets of German Airways operated by WDL, the airline has now found a suitable solution. The wet lease agreement is the largest cooperation between German Airways and a single partner to date.

The airline has a total of eight A350-900 aircraft on order and operates an Airbus fleet of 68 aircraft (51 A320 Family, 17 A330 and A340 Family aircraft). In the coming years, as part of an extensive fleet modernisation, SAS will take delivery of 54 additional A320neo Family aircraft and the remaining seven A350-900s through direct purchase and lease contracts.

 

SAS’s A350-900 features a modern and highly comfortable three-class cabin layout with 300 seats: 40 “SAS Business” class, 32 “SAS Plus” class and 228 “SAS Go” class seats. Ryanair sulkee kaksi tukikohtaa, Tukholma-Skavstan ja Nürnbergin, vedoten siihen, että yhtiö ei saa tilaamiaan 737 Maxeja ajoissa. Skavstaan lennetään edelleen, mutta muista tukikohdista käsin ja vähemmin vuoroin. 100 Ruotsissa asuvaa työntekijää on huolissaan työpaikoistaan. The Romanian government is looking for approval by the European Commission to give state aid to flag carrier TAROM. The Romanian airline will close 2019 with a deficit of around €40 million.

Banaanikauppias ja kiinteistöbisnesmies Izet Rastoder on perustanut yhtiön nimeltä Air Adriatic ja ostanut Adria Airwaysin AOC:n ja manuaalit 45000 eurolla. AOC on kuitenkin hyllyllä ennenkuin tietyt ehdot täyttyvät. Muunmuassa operointikelpoinen lentokone pitäisi löytyä jostakin.

Slovenian company Air Adriatic, owned by businessman Izet Rastoder, has acquired Adria Airways for 45.000 euros. The banana importer and seller, as well as real estate developer, set up Air Adriatic just days following Adria’s collapse in late September of last year. Mr Rastoder previously said he plans to use Adria’s Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) to develop an airline in the private aviation sector and is in the process of acquiring two private jets. However, the Montenegrin-born businessman, who moved to Ljubljana in 1986, has also considered establishing a low cost carrier based in the Slovenian capital.

Adria’s assets were sold off today as a whole and they include the AOC, as well as various manuals, including those for operations, training, maintenance, security, weather, passenger handling and cargo handling. The carrier’s AOC has been suspended until September 30, 2020, however, it will be reinstated once Air Adriatic fulfils certain obligations set out by the Slovenian Civil Aviation Agency, among which is the possession of operational aircraft.

Norjalainen Wideroe leikkaa 4000 vuosittaista lentoa etupäässä pienemmiltä kentiltä Pohjois-Norjassa, koska mm. matkustajamaksujen takia toiminta ei enää ole kannattavaa. Useilta kentiltä katoaa lentoyhteys kokonaan.

Norway’s regional airline Widerøe is to cut 15 percent of departures on its short-haul timetable, totalling 4,000 flights annually. The remote Evenes municipality is expected to particularly feel the effects of the decision, with routes to northern destinations Bodø and Andenes both scrapped by the company, according to the report. The changes will take effect from May 4th this year.

North Norway will be hit most by the cutbacks in general, with routes to and from Bodø and Tromsø to go. However, connections to Oslo and Bergen will also be affected. “We are unfortunately cutting necessary public transport in regional Norway,” Widerøe CEO Stein Nilsen said in a press statement reported by NRK. “Since the introduction of the passenger tax in 2016 we have struggled to find profitability on the shortest routes with the smallest planes. The negative trend has intensified each year,” Nilsen told the broadcaster.

The devaluation of the Norwegian krone, old aircraft and general market development in Norway were also cited as factors behind the cuts.

EU:n komissio on hyväksynyt 36,7 miljoonan euron lainan, jonka Romanian valtio aikoo myöntää valtio-omisteiselle TAROM-lentoyhtiölle. Laina on maksettava takaisin 6 kuukauden kuluttua. Taromilla on likviditeettiongelmia mm. vanhentuneen konelaivaston takia.

The European Commission has approved Romania's plans to provide state funding, in the form of a temporary loan, of around EUR36.7 million euros (USD39.9 million) to ailing state-owned flag carrier Tarom (RO, Bucharest Otopeni), a statement by the commission dated February 24 confirmed.

The measure “will contribute to ensuring the orderly continuation of air transport services, in particular on the numerous routes where Tarom is the only provider”, the statement said, so that disruptions for passengers are avoided and competition in the European Union is not distorted.

Lufthansa Group is implementing a hiring freeze and offering staff unpaid leave as part of cost-cutting measures amid the impact on air travel demand from the coronavirus outbreak.

While the airline group says it is too early to estimate the earnings impact of the coronavirus outbreak, its network operators Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian have cancelled all flights to mainland China until the end of March and adjusted capacity to Hong Kong. Lufthansa says this is the equivalent of having 13 aircraft grounded.

Flybe has only enough financial resources to keep it going until the end of this month, according to people briefed on its situation.

The airline has warned that if it were to collapse, most of the routes it services would probably be abandoned entirely. Its executives have told the government that 88 of its 120 routes are not flown by any other airline.
