This is New Zealand registered plane and does not normally visit Townsville, so I was very surprised when it landed The usual freighters that visit Townsville are the Australian Air Express 737's. Australian Air Express is 50% owned by Australia Post and 50% owned by Qantas. AAE have four 737's in service, so maybe one is in for maintenance so ZK-TLA is operating in Australia for short while to cover . Here is picture of Australian Air Express 737. Kirjoitettu Tammikuu 15, 2012 Hi Jaakko, The A340 is charted by the Australian Defence Force. Townsville and Darwin are two very big military cities here in Australia. Townsville has population of about 180,000, and Darwin has population of about 140,000. Most of the military defence troops that Australia has deployed in places like Iraq and Afghanistan are from Townsville and Darwin military bases. There is also another military base near Sydney. The A340 operates a rotation of Sydney - Darwin - Al Minhad Military base Dubai - Darwin - Townsville - Sydney. Darwin twice as it is also used for refuelling. Australian defence troops are either dropped off or picked up on these flights through Townsville and Darwin. We do not see many wide bodies here in Townsville apart from many C17's. So it is always welcome sight to see A340 in town. CS-TQM was actually back in Townsville again today, but it departed to Brisbane instead of Sydney today. I hope to get better quality pictures of CS-TQM. It is so hot here as we are in middle of summer so the heat haze makes it hard to get good quality photos. Dave. Business trip was to be in Brisbane, but ended up being in Melbourne, but my Qantas flight to Melbourne was via Brisbane. It was my lucky day. I flew on Qantas 737-800 VH-VZD which is painted in special advertising of Optus Phone Company which has joined Qantas Frequent Flyer program.
