EU:n komissio on päättänyt tutkia, pitäisikö FedExin ja TNT:n yhdistyminen estää, jos ne pääsevät määräävään markkina-asemaan jäljellejääviin UPS:ään ja DHL:ään nähden. Tutkimusten odotetaan kestävän ainakin joulukuulle asti.

 

The European Commission (EC) says it is concerned that the proposed takeover of Dutch logistics firm TNT Express by FedEx Express (FX, Memphis Int'l) could negatively impact competition in the bloc's market.

 

Announcing an in-depth investigation to assess whether the proposed takeover is in line with EU Merger Regulations, the EC said its concerns focus on a number of European markets where the merged entity would face insufficient competitive constraints from the only two remaining players (UPS and DHL).

EU:n komission mukaan estettä FedExin TNT-oston toteutumiselle ei ole. USA:n puolelta hyväksyntä on jo saatu. Jäljellä on vielä Kiinan ja Brasilian hyväksymiset.

 

The European Commission (EC) has formally approved FedEx Corp.’s proposed €4.4 billion ($4.77 billion) acquisition of TNT Express.

 

“Following an in-depth investigation opened in July 2015, the Commission has concluded that the acquisition will not give rise to competition concerns, because FedEx and TNT are not particularly close competitors and because the merged entity will continue to face sufficient competition from its rivals in all markets concerned,” the EC said in a Jan. 8 statement.

 

The EC clearance moves FedEx and TNT closer to completing the deal. The US government cleared the acquisition in November.

Brasilian viranomaisten hyväksyntä kaupoille on saatu, joten enää puuttuu Kiinan hyväksyntä.

 

Brazilian competition watchdog Conselho Administrativo de Defesa Econômica has unconditionally approved FedEx’s plans to acquire TNT Express.
