Bussin ja Bombardierin yhteishanke näkyy jo siinä että Cseries on tänään nimetty uudelleen Airbussin tuoteperheeseen ja on nyt siis Airbus A220. Malleja on kaksi; A220-100 (ex CS100) ja A220-300 (ex CS300).

Airbus has revealed the A220 at a ceremony held at its Henri-Ziegler Delivery Centre, near Toulouse this morning.

The event was witnessed by Airbus employees and members of the media, the A220-300 landed at 11.25 wearing its new Airbus name and colours which had been freshly painted at a UK paint shop.

The A220 family comprises two models, the A220-100 and A220-300, formerly Bombardier Inc.’s C Series (CS100 and CS300). The aircraft are fully optimised for the 100 to 150 seat market and “perfectly complement Airbus’ existing best-selling A320neo family” The plane maker said.

The wings for the A220 are made at the Bombardier factory in Belfast, the deal struck with Airbus will safeguard around 1000 jobs there.

CH-Aviationin uutisen mukaan jetBluen tilaamista 60 varmasta A220:stä toimitetaan viisi ensimmäistä v. 2020, neljä seuraavaa v. 2021, 8 v. 2022, 19 v. 2023, 22 v. 2024 ja viimeiset kaksi v. 2025. Ja jos 60 optiota muutetaan varmoiksi tilauksiksi, ne toimitetaan vv. 2025-2028. Tämä kertoo siitä, että A220:n tuotantokapasiteettia aiotaan nostaa kiihtyvään tahtiin. - Kuudestakymmenestä nykyisestä EMB-190:stään jetBlue luopuu alkaen v. 2020 vuoteen 2025 mennessä.

A220-konetilauksia saattaa tulla, jos hyvin käy, jo Farnboroughin ilmailunäyttelyn yhteydessä, joka alkaa 16.7. ja yleisöpäivät ovat 21. ja  22.7., ja sitä luulisi, että Airbus tuo koneen sinne näytteille..

Taitolentoesityksiä Farnboroughissa on kuitenkin edelleen rajoitettu vuoden 2015 Shorehamin onnettomuuden jälkeen, joten esim. Red Arrows ei saa suorittaa muuta ohjelmaa kuin ylilentoja, "koska Farnborough on siviilikenttä", kuten selitys kuuluu. Kunnollisia taitolento-ohjelmia nähdäkseen pitää mennä esim. RIATiin, joka pidetään RAF Fairfordin sotilaskentällä, mutta alkaa tulla kiire, koska RIAT pidetään jo ensi viikonloppuna. Delta Air Lines’ first A220-100 took off on its first flight from Mirabel airport, Québec, at 02:02 p.m. local time. The aircraft was crewed by A220 programme test pilots. During successful 2 hour and 53 minutes flight, the crew checked the aircraft’s main systems and landed back in Mirabel at 04:55 p.m.

The flight took place a few days after the aircraft rolled out of the paint shop. Next, the aircraft will continue with pre-delivery testing and assembly, as elements of its state-of-the-art interior come together at the A220 assembly line. Delta’s first A220 is scheduled to begin service in early 2019.

With the certification, the A220 becomes the first commercial airline to obtain domestic ETOPS certification from Transport Canada. Deltan oli tarkoitus laittaa ensimmäinen yhtiölle toimitetuista neljästä A220-koneestaan liikenteeseen 31. tammikuuta, mutta USA:n hallinnon vastikään kolmeksi viikoksi puretun sulkutilan takia A220-lentojen aloitus siirtyy eteenpäin helmikuun 7. päivään. The announcement by the White House Friday afternoon of an agreement to reopen the federal government came too late to maintain Delta Air Lines’ originally scheduled January 31 launch date for the Airbus A220. The airline confirmed on Friday it will postpone the introduction of the new narrowbody until February 7 due to delays in the certification process caused by staffing shortages at the Federal Aviation Administration.

An airline spokesman said that Delta will operate the planned flights with other aircraft to avoid any service disruption. The airline expects schedules to reflect the change in equipment on Saturday.

Delta took delivery of its first A220 on October 26 and since then has taken three more. It will base its first 109-seat A220 at New York La Guardia Airport and launch service on February 7 to Boston and Dallas.

Latvian airline airBaltic has taken delivery of its 39th Airbus A220-300 jet, further extending its lead as the world’s largest operator of the aircraft type. 

The aircraft was delivered on December 31st, 2022, at its hub at Riga International Airport, the airline confirmed in a statement.   

Registered as YL-ABM, the aircraft is the 7th Airbus aircraft delivery for the airline in 2022, bringing its all-Airbus fleet to 39 aircraft.
