Brittien B747 aikakausi historiaan

British Airways lensi tänään viimeisen B747 lennon kun G-BYGC  BOAC retro livery siirrettiin Cardiffista St Athaniin. Lento kesti 21 minuuttia ja tunnus oli tietenkin BA747.

Viimeinen brittiläinen matkustajajumbo Virgin Atlanticin G-VROY lähtee Heathroysta ensi keskiviikkona 16.12. Konetta ei kuitenkaan varastoida ja/tai pureta, vaan se siirtyy Atlas Airille armeijajoukkojen rahtariksi. 

Huomenna lauantaina Virgin järjestää Farevell tapahtuman B747 aikakauden päättymisen tiimoilta.

Tickets for the experience will cost £50 each and will be available on a limited first-come, first-serve basis due to England’s current restrictions.

The entire experience will last around three hours with a range of opportunities on offer. First, ‘passengers’ will sip champagne on the aircraft’s upper deck. Following this, passengers will retire to an Upper Class suite, where a three-course a-la-carte meal will be served. Meanwhile, the airline’s jumbo jet pilots will recount experiences of flying the Queen of the Skies. 

However, the experience doesn’t end after dinner. Passengers will then get a tour of the aircraft. This will include visits to the cockpit, crew rest area, and the aircraft’s cargo hold. The final part, and in my opinion the best part, will see passengers have a photo taken inside one of the engines of the Boeing 747-400.

Uudessa-Seelannissa 747:t ovat poistuneet näyttämöltä jo v. 2014, mutta paikallinen hyväntekeväisyyssäätiö yrittää nyt kerätä rahaa ostaakseen Air New Zealandin viimeisenä käyttämän 747:n takaisin Uuteen-Seelantiin tehdäkseen siitä hotellin. Kone on nyt Espanjassa Wamos Airin omistuksessa, jolle koneen tarvitsema D-huolto on liian kallis, joten kone on myynnissä tai matkalla hautausmaalle. Hinta-arvio on "alle 2 miljoonaa, mistä säätiöllä on koossa 10 %". Iron Maidenin Bruce Dickinsonia säätiö aikoo pyytää lentämään koneen Uuteen-Seelantiin.

Saavatkohan tarpeeksi rahaa kokoon? Kone pitäisi sitten maalata uudelleen Air New Zealandin väreihin ja muuntaa hotelliksi, mihin kaikkeen tarvitaan rahaa.

A charitable trust is in a race against time to save Air New Zealand’s last 747, with plans to bring it back to Aotearoa and transform it into a hotel.

The trust will also reach out to Iron Maiden star and aviation fan Bruce Dickinson to fly the plane to New Zealand.

This particular 747 entered service with Air New Zealand when it was brand new, back in 1998, and was the last Queen of the Skies to leave the airline in 2014. It famously sported the Lord of the Rings livery from 2002 to 2004.

Since then, the plane was bought by Spanish charter company Wamos Air – which leased the aircraft to Saudi Arabian Airlines, and Garuda Indonesia among others.

The jet is expected to cost “well south of $2 million”, and the trust is about 10 per cent of the way there.”

The plan at the moment is to try and save the plane while it’s still airworthy and fly it to New Zealand.
